Talk therapy, often called ‘psychotherapy’, is a means of treating psychological or emotional problems through verbal and non-verbal communication.
Talk therapy is done with the immediate goal of helping the person increase their self-knowledge and awareness of their relationship with others.
Talk therapy assists people in becoming “more conscious of their unconscious thoughts, feelings and motives.
Its long-term goal is to make it possible to replace destructive patterns of behaviour with healthier, more successful ones.
There are many different forms of talk therapy including counselling, cognitive behaviour therapy and family therapy.
