It is possible to (literally) change our mind. We can re-wire our brain for positivity and well-being, if we really want to.
We consume toxins as the salience towards the toxin tends to be stronger than our self-control. However, the neo-cortex of our brain always gives us the power to choose. We can re-wire our brain through making resolutions; and crucially, by following through with them.
Our mind grows through self-control. Every time we opt for abstinence over salience, our mind becomes stronger, and every personal victory has an accumulatively positive effect. Every time we succumb to salience, however, our mind becomes weaker, and we become more reliant on that toxin.
Will-power and persistence will inevitably result in success. We need to practice will-power as often as we can.
Make a resolution today, and resolve to stick to it for 21 days.
